Each question is worth 25 points. Each answer should be about one full page long (typed double-spaced equivalent). Please clearly designate at the beginning of each answer which question you are writing about.
1. Assume that you have been hired as a consultant by an American firm that is planning to open branches of its company in several different countries around the world. Explain to them the three most important points about intercultural communication that they must keep in mind while dealing with employees and customers in other countries.
Give one example each of how “overpathologizing” and “underpathologizing” can be problems in dealing with mental illness cross-culturally.
4. Is there a universal standard for physical attractiveness? How would you design a study that would test that idea? How would you test that differently for men and women?
10. If you were given a large research grant to look into a question in cross-cultural psychology, what do you think would be the most important and/or interesting issue to research? What don’t we know that we need the most new research on? Briefly discuss how you would go about designing a study to investigate this question.
