23 pages, doublespace, typed, stapled

Write a paper that reflects on your life from a sociological perspective. In what ways
have your story and identity been shaped by such factors as the nation and generation in
which you were born, your family’s social class, your race, your ethnicity, your religion,
your gender, your sexual orientation, and changes going on in contemporary American
culture?
You do not need to write about all these things, or to share information you consider too
personal.
The main point is to express a sociological imagination, to explain the ways in which
your personal story is related to broader social patterns.
Your essay should begin with an introductory paragraph that contains a thesis statement
anticipating the main point(s) you will make. It should conclude with a conclusion
paragraph that sums up the points you have made.
With very few exceptions (as required by law or university regulations), your paper will
be kept confidential.
