There are workplace policies that are intended to create a
better balance between work and family. Yet these policies do not always
effectively address the tension between work and family life. Describe
policies that workplaces offer their employee-parents that are intended to
allow them to participate more fully in family life. Why do they fail to
accomplish their goal? Describe other policies, ones not mentioned in these
readings, that you believe might be helpful. The policies you suggest may be
your own ideas: they need not be in place at a particular workplace.
